RTI 12

this is why i do this. I know it's an intensely ugly one but unless i feel the ugly with every fiber in my being, I won't understand it. by posting it I feel the ugly and I know that I created it. unless i do that i'll just gloss it over. but now I'm thinking "man tomorrow it's not going to look so ugly - i'll make sure." and so I go forward and get better. also this is not meant to be a slur. it's called a joke. see you tomorrow with a much awesomer rti.

rti 11

I wish i was an indian. indians probably wished for something more cushy and physically simple like my life. maybe if I had a time machine i would trade places with one. it wouldn't be an even trade, though since it would take like 12 of me to do what one indian could do. then the twelve of me would mess up all the time (like eating the part of the deer meant for the chief, then us 12 would get in trouble). for sure there would be a learning curve. maybe I'll do a short story about the indian and the time machine some time. this one took me one hour and six minutes. shaved off seven minutes. (should have been much less - this one only has four panels. at some point I'll do the opposite where a guy getting a hot pocket out of the freezer and cooking it in the microwave wishes to be an indian killing a buck etc. see you tomorrow when another awesome rti comes about.

RTI 10

this one took one hour and 13 minutes. I guess it just takes me too many panels before i'm comfortable with the pacing. the composition went quicker today but then i had to trace the same thing over and over again. It's going to take some good practice to get quicker and make them look better, both compositionally and the actual image (line weight, blacks, form, etc.). it's fun though. see you tomorrow with another awesome rti.

rti 9

this one took on hour and 13 minutes to create. i still have a long way to go - look i don't even have time to put in blacks, shading or draw it very well. it's ok: in time I will. I thought this was a funny idea - I thought of it in my car. btw I'm not doing one on sunday. ever.

peace.

rti 8 (#7 continued)

I realized who these people look like - they look like the little people in where's waldo books. that's because i have to draw them so small - did i ever mention that i'm doing all of this on 8.5 x 11 paper? well that's how it works for now. I should also mention that this took me one hour and seventeen minutes... like 5 minutes less than yesterday. how does it take me so long? i'll figure it out. I think part of it is I use so many panels. caveat: i know the alien looks like a fink in the big panel. I could have changed his leg and body to look better / more natural, but: I think posting something like this that is ... should i say, LESS than perfect ... will burn into my mind the importance of doing it right the first time. so the next time before I just draw some garbage like that I'll think twice and do it right the first time, instead of just thinking oh i'll fix it later and then just leaving it. so there is a method to the crappy aspects for me - it hurts my feelings and forces me to do better. see you tomorrow with another rti (an awesome one). also - can anyone figure out what is happening in the second to last frame?

the real arty eye seven

This will be continued later. can you believe it took me an hour and seventeen minutes to make this one, clouseau. it's not even done. i'll finish the rest tomorrow. i didn't even take extra time on anything. it's good to go quick because it gets me making decisions and simplifying quickly. it hurts my feelings that i can't get in and go to details, but composition is more important to practice right now. all that rendering is overrated - i would postulate that most people learn to render before learning to draw - recipe for frustration (and horrible drawing). case in point: DA. see you tomorrow with another awesome RTI. by the way, the message communicated by this strip is probably not accurate (my intent vs. your perception) but to fix it I would need more time and I was already over one hour when I realized it. peace.

RTI 7

I must tell you that this particular RTI took much longer than one hour. It will be a challenge with some ideas to keep it under an hour, but that's why i'm doing this - so that I can develop that ability. In the future I'll have it down pat. whatever that means... i'll let the sloppy unfinished comic speak for itself. tomorrow: one hour!

RTI Basic Rule(s)

The only real rule is that these are only supposed to take one hour to draw from start to finish. That's why they're so sloppy - only the last two come close to an hour. the first three are more like 5 minutes. Don't stress I'll get the hang of it. If I can I'm going to incorporate things that I don't draw well - I can use the practice. See you tomorrow when I post another awesome RTI.

RTI begins

The following are the first recorded official RTIs ever, starting with the earliest at the bottom. I will post one per day until the end of August, at which time I may change posting increment due to time constraints. If you have any random thoughts you would like illustrated, just tell me and I might just do it as long as it doesn't involve naked people or be lame. This will be a blast... BEHOLD:
